Brian's approach to teaching is to help each of his students become the most well-rounded player they can be. Understanding that learning an instrument shouldn't be all hard work, he tries to incorporate in his lesson plans an even mixture of the fundamentals (reading, technique, time, and taste) with things the student wants to learn such as specific drumming "tricks", patterns from certain songs, and showmanship.
Mixing the things that a student wants to learn, with the things they really, really NEED to learn is what makes a well-rounded player.
